  • Team stats (Hawks-Pies): Disposals 117-98, inside-50s 11-13, free kicks 2-7, clearances 12-12, centre clearances 0-6, contested possessions 30-31, uncontested possessions 87-61, turnovers 16-14, marks 32-23, marks inside-50 3-0, tackles 11-13.

Analysis: Clearly the numbers that stand out are the uncontested possession stats. Sam Frost just told Fox Footy the plan is to make the Magpies defend. They’re doing well so far, taking nine more marks.

    Hawthorn Hawks 4.2 (14)

    Collingwood Magpies 2.2 (14)

Leading disposals: Tom Mitchell (14), Taylor Adams (12), Jordan De Goey (10), Liam Shiels (10), Chad Wingard (10)

Clearances: De Goey (4), Mitchell (3), Adams (3), Brodie Grundy (2)

Analysis: Hawthorn got the jump on Collingwood in that term and are just possessing the footy a bit better than the Pies. They’ve been able to control the game on the outside through mark-kick and then cut the Pies back through the middle. Collingwood have struggled to link up going inside-50 and need to close down Hawthorn’s time and space, and hit their lead-up forwards rather than kick long to the Hawks defenders.

Jack Scrimshaw has kicked just his third goal of the season to put the Hawks two goals up.

The Hawks are obliterating the Magpies in the uncontested possession count by 25 and have taken nine more marks.

    Tom Mitchell has 14 disposals.

    Hawks 4.2 (26), Pies 2.2 (14)

The Magpies are 6-0 at centre clearances so far today...

Darcy Cameron has just missed a set shot from 40 metres out after winning a holding the man free kick in the ruck.

The clearances around the ground are even but the Pies have dominated at centre bounces.

Jordan De Goey has four clearances and has probably been the best player on the ground so far.

    Hawks 3.2 (20), Pies 2.2 (14)

Dylan Moore has kicked a lovely left foot snap from the boundary.

The chain started from a turnover on the wing; Brodie Grundy fed out a handball to old teammate Tom Phillips and the Hawks went forward.

    Hawks 3.2 (20), Pies 2.1 (13)

Hawks are back out to a seven-point lead, via a set shot goal to Shaun Burgoyne.

Mitchell is still leading disposals with nine, but Jordan De Goey (seven) and Taylor Adams (seven) are getting busy for the Pies in the middle.

And the Pies have just won the next centre clearance and goalled via Finlay Macrae, his first in AFL footy.

    Hawks 2.2 (14), Pies 2.1 (13)

A high free-kick to Jack Ginnivan 15 metres out from goal has the Magpies on the board.

The Hawks have had more of the ball, mostly in handballs, and have six inside-50s to Collingwood’s four so far.

The Hawks are also winning the early clearance battle.

    Hawks 1.2 (8), Pies 1.1 (7)

Hawthorn had five of the first six inside-50s, but the Pies were able to transition from a stoppage on half back to go inside-50 for the second time, only for a mark to Ollie Henry being called play on.

The Hawks have gone down the other end and Mitch Lewis has taken a contested mark 25 metres out straight in front.

Lewis goals, the first of the match. Tom Mitchell (eight disposals) and Chad Wingard (seven) have been busy.

    Hawks 1.2 (8), Pies 0.1 (1)

We’ve only been playing for 90 seconds but the game has been played in Hawthorn’s forward half.

The Pies are pressuring them into handballs, but they’ve had the first couple of inside-50s and have a behind on the board from a long shot on goal from Hardwick.

The Pies now have it in their forward 50. John Noble is playing half-forward, while Sam Frost is up against Jamie Elliott.

Last week it was Steele Sidebottom, this week Taylor Adam steps up to fill the void left by Scott Pendlebury.

Adams wins the toss against Ben McEvoy and will kick left of the screen for all those watching at home.

Alastair Clarkson will coach his third last game for the Hawks, up against interim coach Robert Harvey.
